All students follow the Welsh Board Syllabus (WJEC) for English Language and English Literature. All students are entered for both examinations.

Virtually all new GCSE qualifications are unitised and it is possible that students may take assessments during the course or at the end of the course as is now the case.

English Language now consists of four units: 2 external written examination papers and 2 controlled assessments.  The skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening are tested in these units and there is emphasis now on skills which will help candidates to function in real life contexts beyond the classroom.
