Geography Department

MoodleWelcome to the Geography DepartmentWeather at the Hollins

There has never been a better or more important time to study geography. With growing interest in issues such as climate change, migration and environmental problems, geography is one of the most exciting courses you could choose to study at GCSE and beyond. IcelandGeography offers opportunities to travel the world and make a difference to peoples lives. Geography can lead to lots of exciting career paths such as civil engineering, oceanography, town and transport planning, chartered surveying, land and water management, environmental sciences, tourism, conservation, housing and social welfare.

Whatever your passion for the world - fascination with landscapes or concerns about inequality - geography will provide you with knowledge and transferable skills that will reward you personally and advance your broader skills.

We aim....

  • To stimulate students’ interest in their surroundings and in the variety of human and physical conditions on the earth's surface.
  • To foster their sense of wonder at the beauty of the world around them.
  • To help pupils to develop an informed concern about the quality of the environment and the future of the human habitat and thereby enhance students’ sense of responsibility for the care of the earth and its people.

Resources

Each of the two teaching rooms is equipped with an interactive whiteboard and we have a huge selection of videos for classroom use. We have developed materials on the local area, including class sets of aerial photographs, OS maps and information cards. An extensive range of textbooks and worksheets are available in both rooms to meet the needs of students of all ages and abilities.
