2 Day Trip to Lille Christmas Markets 2009

Mardi le seize décembre à minuit, nous nous sommes rencontrés au collège, et nous avons commencé notre voyage en car pour aller à Lille. Nous avons essayé à dormir, et quelques personnes ont réussi ! Le lendemain, très tôt, nous avons pris le train dans le tunnel sous la manche, et nous sommes arrivés à Calais pour manger notre petit déjeuner dans un café français - c’était délicieux. Puis nous avons repris le car pour aller au marché de noël à Lille. Il faisait très froid, mais tout le monde s’est bien amusé quand même, et nous avons goûté de la nourriture française, et acheté des cadeaux. Le soir, nous avons mangé dans le restaurant de notre hôtel, et après, quelques personnes sont allées au lit, et les autres ont joué des jeux. Quand nous nous sommes réveillés le lendemain, nous avons découvert qu’il avait neigé pendant la nuit-quelle surprise. Nous avons voyagé à une usine de chocolat en Belgique avant de retourner au grand centre commercial à Calais où nous avons parlé plus de français et acheté plus de cadeaux. Finalement, nous sommes retournés vers minuit après deux jours formidables, froids, et fatigants !

At midnight on Tuesday 16 December, we met at school and began our journey to Lille by coach. We tried to sleep, and some of us actually succeeded! We arrived at the channel tunnel at the crack of dawn the following morning, and travelled to Calais, where we stopped for a typical French breakfast in a local café. From Calais, we headed to the Christmas markets in Lille. It was very very cold, but we enjoyed ourselves, and practised our French and bought some presents. In the evening, we ate in the restaurant of our hotel, after which some people headed for bed, and the rest of us stayed up to play some games. When we woke up in the morning, we found to our surprise that it had snowed during the night. We boarded the coach once more and headed for a chocolate factory just over the Belgium border, before returning to finish our shopping and speak more French in a big shopping centre just outside Calais. Finally, we travelled back through the channel tunnel and arrived back at school at about midnight after two tiring, cold, but very enjoyable days.
