On Tuesday 28th February 4 students from the Hollins, joined in a debate on religious education. Eight Lancashire schools took part. The debate was held in the council chambers of Lancs County Council, as part of the Youth Sacre.
Students from various Lancashire schools debated both sides, The Hollins students were Jack Mcloughlin, Fayha Yousf, Georgia Pilkington and Ben Ross. Votes were taken at the end of each debate.
Students agreed that :
- In the current climate of extremism, the right to withdraw pupils from RE should be removed.
- RE is too important to be left to parents.
Students disagreed that in a secular age RE has no place on the curriculum.
