[Department Home][Citizenship] [PSHE]

The place of Religious Education on the curriculum is hugely valued at the Hollins; whether our students are religious or not, we help them to make sense of a confusing world, and give them the opportunity to explore their own beliefs and attitudes as well as to  learn about the beliefs of others.
R.E. is an important subject for a wide range of careers, and an increasingly popular subject at A Level. Every student at the Hollins is given the opportunity to leave school with some form of qualification in this subject, with the vast majority obtaining A*-C grades at GCSE, a minority opting for short course GCSE, and a small number taking the Entry level Certificate.

Pupils receive one hour of R.E throughout their career at The Hollins. These lessons are taught in the dedicated RE rooms (Room 4,9 and 17).

As a department we are also responsible for Citizenship and PSHE and the RE staff are therefore at the forefront of a number of cross curricular ventures, such as International Schools; Global Schools linking programme; Face to Faith; Fair Trade school and Eco/Sustainable  Schools.

Hollins pupils are also active in influencing the RE curriculum for the whole of Lancashire by their involvement in the Youth Sacre Project.

We promote learning outside the classroom and have run a number of exciting trips to places of worship. We also invite guest speakers into school, and encourage our pupils to adopt an enquiring approach to the subject.
