School Nurse
help with health
School nurses are all qualified nurses who have undertaken specialist training and have experience in dealing with children, young people and their families. School nurses work as part of a wider team that looks after children, young people and their families from age 0-16years old.
Within secondary schools we also offer young people advice and support on issues including, long term medical conditions, bullying, relationships, behaviour, physical, emotional and sexual health, vaccinations, smoking cessation, alcohol and drugs and self harm.
School nurses have a duty to keep information confidential. They are often the first point of contact for young people via drop ins, one to ones, informal contact, community activities and Personal, Social and Health Education (PHSE) programmes. As a school nurse we will actively encourage the young person to inform parents of there issues so support can be obtained within the family, however our nursing code of conduct states we are under no obligation to inform teachers or parents if the child does not consent unless there is a risk of significant harm.
The Hollins School Nurse is Christine Holden and she is usually available at the 'Confidential Drop-in' every Tuesday lunchtime in the RE office.
